Metropolitan Golf Club Braces for Dual Resignation Senior Level Transition

POSTED ON April 9, 2026 @ 5:27 pm

The Metropolitan Golf Club is preparing for a significant changing of the guard following the dual resignations of General Manager Jon Gahan and Course Superintendent John Mann. Both leaders are set to depart mid-year to take on prestigious new roles within the Australian golf industry.

Gahan to Lead New Venture at The Capital

Jon Gahan has submitted his resignation, effective late June 2026. He has accepted the position of inaugural General Manager of The Capital Golf Club, a role that offers the rare opportunity to build the foundations of an exclusive private members’ club.

The move marks a brief but impactful tenure at Metropolitan. Gahan noted “great regret” that his time at the club was ending so soon, but described the chance to oversee a major reconstruction of the course and clubhouse at The Capital as a “once-in-a-lifetime career opportunity.”

Mann Moving to Royal Melbourne

Adding to the transition, Course Superintendent John Mann will depart in early July 2026 to become the Director of Courses at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Mann joined Metropolitan in mid-2022 and has been widely credited with elevating the course’s standards. The club board highlighted his “significant” contributions, specifically:

  • The execution of CEP (Capital Expenditure Program) and GRP (Green Replacement Program) works.
  • Achieving course conditions described as the “best it has been for many, many years.”

Looking Ahead

The Metropolitan Board expressed disappointment at the loss of two key executives but maintained a positive outlook for the club’s stability.

“Whilst the above two departures will undoubtedly create some disruption, the reality is we have a wonderful team at Metro who will continue to provide the level of service and course presentation that we have become used to.”

The club has officially commenced a recruitment process to find successors for both roles and to manage the transition period. Further details regarding the search are expected to be provided to members in the coming weeks.
