UPDATE: Uncertainty surrounds the Logan City Golf Club

POSTED ON July 12, 2017 @ 12:43 am

Logan City Golf Club members and staff have been left in limbo after City Council announced they would not grant a new sublease for the caretakers.

Club caretaker duo of 15 years, Carl Evans and Craig Baldwin, has operated the course under Logan City Golf Club Pty Ltd, with Australian Golf Management leasing the council-owned land, and were notified by council in June that the agreement would not be extended.

The City Council’s announcement follows an ongoing dispute over compensation for a 1.5km sewerage pipeline that was installed in 2015 after four years of negotiations.

Evans and Baldwin now fear prices for members will increase and said they had tried to come to a solution with the Council.

“We tried to warn (Logan City Council) the whole way through about what would happen to our business and they just did not listen,” Mr Baldwin told Quest community news. “I’m furious. We’re prepared to fight this.”

In a statement, Logan City Council treasurer Trevina Schwarz said: “Council has paid significant compensation to the Logan City Golf Club based on the financial information provided by the club.

“As we have been unable to reach a final agreement on the compensation, this is now subject to possible court action and, as such, it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

UPDATE: 24/7/17
An email was sent to us from Tom Linskey, one the owners of the Head Lease on the property under the Logan Council.
Mr Linskey informed us of the following:
1. The lease of Craig and Carl came to an end November 30 2016. we extended it to June 30 2017 to allow them time to sort out their issues with Council which unfortunately are still ongoing.
2. We, the owners of the Head Lease from Logan Council, took over the operations on July 1st 2017 and will continue in that role going forward.
3. As is normal, some staff members were replaced with new people – only one in the house staff, only one in the outside staff and only one in the pro shop so the staff changes were very small.
4. Nothing has changed for the members, their memberships have been honoured, the course is being maintained efficiently, we put 150 through in the comp each of the last two Saturdays
5. Social players are turning up daily, people are playing – people are eating and drinking

Business at Logan City GC is per normal otherwise.
