AGMA President Moloney and Secretary Begg announce retirement

Australian Golf Media Association (AGMA) President Brendan Moloney and Secretary-Treasurer George Begg have announced their retirement following the annual AGMA dinner on November 25 this year.

The duo recently announced in a note to members that they will not seek re-election for their positions within the association at the gala dinner later this year, however Begg will be up for re-election as Treasurer at the occasion.

“Due to the work that was involved with our banking after Incorporation in April, I would like to stay on as Treasurer, Begg stated last week. “Through that, I will remain on the executive and be in a mentoring position for my replacement.”

“Through my health problems which are curtailing my day to day activities, I feel that the time has come to move on and pass the baton to a replacement. To Peter Stone, and Brendan Moloney I want to say a big thank you as they have been a major support to me during my tenure as Secretary and I have enjoyed working with each of them.”

Both Moloney and Begg have held leadership positions within the organisation, which was previously known as the Australian Golf Writers Association (AGWA), for 31 and 22 years respectively, and will both stay on for this year’s AGMA Championships, Annual General Meeting and Annual Dinner.

“It has been an honour to serve on the executive for the past 31 years and as president since 2008,” Moloney said.

“I wish the new president and the association well and acknowledge the work of my predecessors Don Lawrence and Peter Stone and captain Brendan James and Tom Ramsey, Jim Webster and Bernie Pramberg who went before him.”

“To you the members it has been a privilege to serve you over the years and I look forward to working with my successor to assist him or her in whatever way I can,” Begg added.

Golf Industry Central, Managing Director Mike Orloff wants to thank both gentlemen for all they have done for the industry in the many years working through the AGWA and newly rebranded AGMA, and wish them both good luck in the future! “I’m a relative newcomer to this part of our industry, but have been warmly welcomed by George and the AGMA.”

The executive has begun the task of seeking out replacements for Brendan and George to be elected at the Annual General Meeting and to take up duties after this year’s dinner.    If anyone happens to have an interest particularly in the secretary’s position don’t hesitate to come forward with your hand up.
