Golf Month – Sharing the bug across Australia

It’s that time of the year again where the golf bug gets past on from juniors to seniors, from beginners to professionals, and coaches to students all across the country.

October is Golf Month in Australia and clubs and facilities around the nation are once again throwing their doors open to welcome everyone to take part in a month long celebration of golf clinics and activities.

Spearheaded by Golf Australia and supported by the PGA of Australia, the program was inaugurated in 2014 in South Australia as ‘GOLF WEEK’ and has since grown significantly year by year, prompting a full month of events.

The campaign aims to drive participation and prides itself on offering activities appealing to everyone – whether you’re new to the game, returning from a break or playing occasionally.

Following last year’s rousing success with 435 clubs and providing more than 1350 offers and activities to golfers around the country, NSW, QLD and TAS delivered well in excess of 100% (year on year) growth in the number of active venues, this year’s campaign is following suit with more than 400 entries already registered for the upcoming month.

Stephen Pitt, chief executive of Golf Australia said he was delighted that Golf Month would again contribute to Aussie golf this year and highlighted the importance of clubs connecting with their local communities – something that made last year’s campaign a standout.

“While 2016 saw a 64% increase in active Golf Month facilities across Australia and a 51% increase in activities and offers, the month’s highlights for me were the clubs who opened their doors to their local communities through family fun days and come-and-try days,” he said.

“The most notable of these were at Rich River Golf Club, where more than 1000 people attended, and Bayview Golf Club, which held an incredibly successful twilight bazaar to promote the club and its family-friendly facilities.”

A recently revealed that more than 200,000 adults are actively considering playing golf in the upcoming year, making Golf Month the prefect event to spread the bug through golf-related experiences around the country.

To celebrate Golf Month 2017, Golf Australia is offering participants the chance to win the ultimate golf bug adventure, simply by introducing someone new to golf this October.
