Big names keep coming for the 2019 GMA National Conference

POSTED ON June 21, 2019 @ 12:22 pm

With registrations growing quickly for the 2019 GMA National Conference to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 6th – 10th October, GMA is delighted to announce the engagement of Peggy O’Neal, current President of the Richmond Football Club and Marina Go, inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission.

Peggy O’Neal has been President of the Richmond Football Club since October 2013, having served on the Club’s board since 2005.  She is the first woman to be President of an AFL club and, in 2017, the Richmond Football Club won the premiership for the first time in 37 years.  In August 2014 she was appointed to chair the Victorian Minister for Sport’s year-long Inquiry into ‘Women and Girls in Sport and Active Recreation’ and until June 2018 was convenor of the Minister’s Change Our Game Champions program.

Peggy is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and presently sits on several large corporation boards, as well as some not-for-profit boards.  In September 2014, Peggy was named as one of the Financial Review/Westpac 100 Women of Influence and as one of the Women’s Weekly 50 Most Powerful Women in Australia, and as of a couple of weeks ago, she was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO).

At the conference, Peggy will discuss her principles of good governance, and the key elements regarding the Chair and General Manager relationship, and will also sit on the National Conference Governance Panel.

Joining Peggy on the National Conference Governance Panel will be Marina Go, the former Chair of the Wests Tigers NRL Club and current Chair of Suncorp Super Netball and Ovarian Cancer Australia.

Marina is a non-executive director of Energy Australia, Autosport’s Group, 7-Eleven, Pro-Pac, and The Walkley Foundation.   She is the author of the business book for women, ‘Break Through: 20 Success Strategies for Female Leaders’, with Boss magazine naming her as one of the 20 True Leaders of 2016.

After starting her career as a journalist, Marina now has over 25 years of leadership experience in the media industry. She founded the female leadership website Women’s Agenda and food magazine disruptor Australian Good Taste and is a former Editor-in-Chief of ELLE and Dolly magazines and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

GMA is delighted to confirm the attendance of these two wonderfully talented and experienced governance professionals.

With the 2019 GMA National Conference Program continuing to go from strength to strength, we continue to encourage people to register early for the Conference, and to not only take advantage of the early bird price, but should members register prior to the 19th July 2019, they will also go into the draw to win a trip for two to Hamilton Island, including two nights accommodation at the award winning Qualia Resort, courtesy of Club Car.
