Singapore: The Club Managers Association of America’s [CMAA] plans to internationalise the Business Management Institute [BMI] programme and make the Certified Club Manager (CCM) certification the global standard in club management are set to gather pace in Asia.

The first Asian Golf Industry Federation [AGIF]-organised BMI course will take place at Singapore’s Orchid Country Club from April 5-9.

Eric Lynge, the AGIF’s Chief Executive Officer, said he believes it will mark the start of a new and exciting era for the club management industry in the region.

Having attended the CMAA’s 89th World Conference on Club Management and Club Business Expo in San Diego, Lynge was bullish about the future prospects for the BMI programme across Asia.

He said: “In San Diego there were several events hosting the international partners of the CMAA. I was impressed to see how the BMI programme and CCM certification is growing in Europe via the CMAE and its partners.

“It was fantastic also to see that the programme is also doing well in other parts of the world, such as New Zealand and South Africa.

“We were already confident about the success of bringing this to Asia, with the CMAA China’s partnership. This trip to the CMAA World Conference has only served to reinforce my feelings of optimism.

“Clearly, Jeff Morgan [CEO, CMAA] and Jason Koenigsfeld [Senior Vice President, Professional Development, CMAA] have a good, workable model which is going to really internationalise the BMI programme and make the CCM certification the global standard in club management.”

Morgan said: “The CMAA seeks to ensure the existence and growth of a thriving club industry led by CMAA educated professionals. Our link up with the Asian Golf Industry Federation allows us to do that in Asia via the BMI programme.

“Our 2016-2020 plan looks to enhance the CMAA’s member offerings and build an even more inclusive, value driven, well functioning organisation. Under the covenants of professionalism, education, leadership and community, CMAA continues to extend its reach as the leader in the club management practice.”

Koenigsfeld added: “The CMAA advances the profession of club management by fulfilling the educational and related needs of its members. The CMAA also provides the expertise to deliver an exceptional club experience that fulfills the unexpressed needs and desires of its members and guests consistent with their lifestyles.

“We are excited to embark on our relationship with the Asian Golf Industry Federation and look forward to making a positive contribution to club managers in Asia.”

Lynge said: “When we entered this partnership with the CMAA last August, we said that the aim was to ensure that the worldwide standard of club manager education is maintained, and tailor approve classroom courses for successful delivery in our territory. That is now coming to fruition.

“Such a link has been long overdue and has been welcomed, not only by established club managers around Asia but also those who harbour ambitions of carving themselves a career in club management.”
