Curlewis Golf Club plans new cafe and function centre
ENTERTAINMENT and hospitality is high on the agenda of the Curlewis Golf Club, which plans to build a new cafe and function centre to lure in non-golfers.
The club’s $500,000 proposal also includes the creation of the Bellarine Peninsula’s first large-scale 18-bay driving range and new pedestrian and cyclist access to and from the rail trail.
The complex would host up to 300 patrons spread across its two licensed venues, which will have the ability to remain open until 11pm daily.
While the club unveiled its vision in August, a planning permit lodged with the City of Greater Geelong is now open for public comment.
It reveals that the new building will be in the western most section of the site, and will overlook the Bellarine Rail Trail.
“(It will) provide an opportunity for users of the rail trail to stop for refreshments, an opportunity which is currently not available.”
The development would also see new entry and exit lanes built onto Portarlington Rd, with VicRoads to reduce the speed limit to 80km/h until east of the proposed access.
Curlewis Golf Club manager Brenden Caligari previously told the Geelong Advertiser the works would begin as soon as planning approval was given.
