Delany changing course after lengthy stint in professional golf ranks
Glyn Delany is moving into real estate after 15 years as a golf professional.
The Nelson Golf Club’s head professional, Delany hands over the reins to Sean Riordan at the end of this month.
Ironically, he leaves the golf industry as the only PGA professional in New Zealand with a diploma of golf management.
“I did a diploma of golf management and wanted to continue in the golf field, I didn’t for one second think I was going to become a real estate agent, that’s for sure,” Delany said. “But I applied for the manager’s job [at the Nelson Golf Club] in August last year and didn’t get it.”
The former New Zealand amateur and Tasman representative first turned professional in 2002. He played professionally for just over two years and was the Motueka club professional for another three. He’s been at Nelson for 10 years, seven of them as the head professional.
