MIKE’S SPACE: Discovering Da Nang, Vietnam’s Golfer’s Paradise (Part 2)

My Next Golfing Adventure: Laguna Golf Lăng Cô

Embarking on the next leg of my golfing adventure in Vietnam had Laguna Golf Lăng Cô on the itinerary. A comfortable transfer an hour north of Da Nang through some countryside brought us out into the secluded resort.

With cooler beachside weather and two rounds lined up, the apartment’s private pool was first on the agenda once we checked in.

Laguna Lăng Cô Integrated Resort

We arrived at Laguna Lăng Cô Integrated Resort, this spot offers a luxurious beachside holiday experience, featuring a unique crescent bay with a three-kilometer beach that exudes an air of exclusivity. The resort boasts various accommodation options, including Banyan Tree Lăng Cô, Angsana Lăng Cô, and Laguna Parkside Lăng Cô, and numerous restaurants.

The resort also houses the world-renowned 18-hole championship golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo. The Laguna Park Residences where we stayed was just off the 18th fairway near the green and offered views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. The multilevel apartment worked well with a couple of TEEN kids, as they each went to their own space to chill out.

Laguna Golf Lăng Cô: A Unique Golfing Experience

The highlight of my trip was undoubtedly Laguna Golf Lăng Cô, an 18-hole, par-71 championship course crafted by the legendary Sir Nick Faldo. With many enjoyable holes, some near the ocean, it’s a must-visit for anyone in Da Nang. My caddy for the day, Binh, made the round even more enjoyable.

This course caters to golfers of all skill levels has garnered several environmental awards since its opening in 2013, and has a unique feature on the course; water buffalos. *My wife wrote up a great summary, you can read it here: The Vietnamese golf course calling circular economy into play

When Sir Nick Faldo designed the award-winning course, he kept a large portion of the natural environment in the rustic hinterland destination. The first 4 holes were built on rice paddies that were, and still are, home to a family of water buffalos.

Two buffalos were introduced to the course seven years ago and today more than ten buffalos call the course their home. You can spot them near holes 3 and 4, eating on rotation.

The Course Layout

The course layout follows a traditional out-and-back routing, offering diverse shot opportunities in its six distinct environments, including rice paddies, woodland, water, beach, sand, and ‘blowout’ areas.

It provides exceptional views throughout the round, with its 7,100 yards from the championship tees and a more beginner-friendly 5,263 yards from the front tees. (Of course, I played the back both rounds!).

The sweeping ocean views and serene mountain backdrop create an idyllic golfing environment.

Lăng Cô isn’t just a golfing destination; it’s a comprehensive resort experience, combining exclusive accommodations, a convenient location, and an exceptional golf course.

The entire ambiance of the course, along with a Banyan Tree resort, makes it a truly special place.

I want to express my gratitude to Adam Calver, Director of Golf, who assisted with the early planning of the visit, and Stephen Banks, the new Director of Golf for making this visit unforgettable.

Be sure to check out the Gongs Mini Putting Course which is a lot of fun! The golf team here is truly exceptional and look forward to your visit.
